We held our first cake stall at Teesside University Student Union on Thursday. Wow, what a crazy event that turned out to be.
We spent all of Wednesday baking, in between having to rush off to meetings and classes. The whole day proved to be a learning experience. We found that we were lacking in some crucial equipment so a lot of time was spent trying to fix that problem. We also ran out of crucial ingredients! About 7pm we were popping out to pick up some more icing sugar.
The oven worked really hard that day. I really think it deserves a medal.
What you forget about when you are planning a day of baking is the amount of washing up you are left with afterwards. Despite cleaning up constantly throughout the day there is always a pile of washing up the size of a mountain to be done when you finish. We were both utterly exhausted by then though. Our feet were sore from standing all day and our arms were sore from whisking and mixing all day.
The tea definitely helped though. We are both tea mad so we took turns putting the kettle on.
It was such a great feeling of accomplishment getting them all finished though. We stopped working at 12:45 on Wednesday night. We were both up again at 8am to get to the stall.
The stall was a complete success. We had made just enough cakes to cover the table. By late morning the table was half empty. By 2:30 the cakes were completely sold out. We decided to offer boxes of four at a discounted price and our lovely guests just couldn't get enough.
While we were holding the cake stall we also offered everyone the chance to win themselves a delicious Christmas cake. This offer is still open for entries, just make a comment below explaining what your favourite cake is and why.
The closing date for this competition is 31st October 2011. After this date I will be drawing the lucky winner's name from a witches hat.
Good Luck, and thank you for reading and supporting Rockery Cottage Cakery. x
